An extension to this Victorian house separates the primary steel structure from the timber walls below, by a gap allowing clerestorey light on all four sides. One side wall is constructed with timber posts and polycarbonate panels, to further enhance the impression of weightlessness. The sense of walls, shelving and kitchen elements being independent in a horizontally emphasised space is reinforced by finishing the floor and ceiling in the same material.
